Headphones help us accomplish many things but the most important is motivation. Music helps us stay pumped during a workout or wine down during a dinner. No matter what you’re doing there’s music to keep you motivated and set the mood. The problem is, sometimes you need to hear outside things as well so headphones become counterproductive. This is where bone conduction can lend a hand.

There are benefits of bone conduction headphones but it is good to know if they are safe and how they actually work so you can decide if they are right for you.

We are all familiar with what headphones do, but not everyone is familiar with how sound works. On a basic level sound is defined as vibrations that travel through the air and cause our eardrums to vibrate in a way that is interpreted by our cochleas. Keeping that in mind, bone conduction headphones make perfect sense. Bone conduction headphones sit just in front of your ear and send vibrations through the bones in your face. Those vibrations travel through to your inner ear and allow you to hear the sound.

Protection

It is common knowledge that listening to loud music or sounds for a long period of time can cause hearing loss. This is because as our eardrums vibrate, it causes eardrum damage. Bone conduction headphones act as your eardrums and send the vibrations through to the cochlea. The cochlear interprets the vibrations and you’ve got sound.

Multi-Tasking

Since the headphones act as our eardrums themselves, we free up our eardrums to vibrate separately. That means while you’re listening to (insert latest and coolest track here) you can still hear what’s going on around you. This comes in great use during certain activities that will be pointed out later.

Children

Children’s ears are very sensitive to sound and listening to loud music can cause future hearing loss. Using bone conduction headphones allow children to listen to music at safe decibel levels. It is one of the safest ways for children to listen to music and is a great healthy living tip that will last forever.

On The Move

Sometimes, exercising and having noise canceling headphones is a great way to get motivated. However, that could be dangerous depending on where you’re exercising. On a treadmill at the gym, fine, enter your own world, but a morning jog or evening bike ride, you should be aware; aware of your surroundings in order to remain safe. Using bone conduction headphones, you can hear that car coming up behind you or hear that warning from a bystander of a possible misstep.

Gift of Sound

One of the most exciting uses for bone conduction headphones is for those who have already lost the ability to hear. In some cases, the cause of deafness is due to eardrum damage, but with bone conduction headphones, there is no need for an eardrum. This allows people with hearing aids to hear the music clearly without the need for hearing aids.

technology is moving fast, and bone conduction headphones are a great example of that growth. Not only can we stay safe and preserve our hearing while listening to music, but if we have hearing loss, you may be able to listen to music without hearing aids. Even better, Aftershokz have water-resistance, flexible and Bluetooth connecting bone conduction headphones available. Welcome to the future of headphones, bone conduction headphones.
