You might have noticed that I often share great dairy free recipes. I love that there are all kinds of dairy free recipes I can share (and eat)! We all get hungry for chocolate cupcakes, even when we can’t have the typical ingredients needed to make them.
While I used to see it as a struggle, now I have found ways to incorporate my food allergy needs into a healthy lifestyle and cooking routine. Using fresh fruit will help any pie recipe taste even better. Sure, a can of fruit for pies will do the job but there’s nothing like that fresh fruit taste.
If you’re living a dairy free life, you’ll need to use this dairy free blueberry pie recipe so you can have a piece as well. Though it’s such a good pie that you may not be able to before everyone else takes a slice. All you need now is a good dairy free topping.
Ingredients for Dairy Free Fresh Blueberry Pie
What will make this recipe impressive is the use of fresh blueberries. You will want to use fresh, cleaned blueberries in this recipe so that the bursts of flavor are filled with freshness. There is nothing wrong with using a Pillsbury pie crust either.
The freshness of the blueberries will make the pie crust seem fresh as well. There are some spices in this recipe that may seem odd but they actually work to enhance the flavor. Allspice is one of those spices that seems weird but it works, cinnamon is a no-brainer ad sugar, of course.
Fresh Blueberry Pie Crumb Topping Ingredients
The pie crumb topping will require a few different ingredients and will give your premade pie crust the appearance of a freshly made pie crust. The appearance will be just as important as taste. To make the pie crust crumble on top, all you will need is some flour, sugar, and butter, dairy free is preferred in my home.
How to Make this Fresh Blueberry Pie Recipe
Wash and dry your blueberries. I like to have my blueberries completely dry for this pie so wash mine in the morning if I am making this dairy free blueberry pie later in the day. If I know I am making it early in the morning, then I wash my blueberries the night before.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees and put crust in pie pan.
Then combine sugar, cornstarch and the two spices for the filling. Mix well.
Add lemon juice and water to the filling mix and stir well.
Add your blueberries to the pie crust and top with the liquid filling mix. Pour it thoroughly over the pie so it seeps in everywhere.
Next make your blueberry pie crumb topping by combining 1/4 cup sugar and 1/2 cup flour. Then cut in 1/4 cup dairy free butter.
Place the crumb topping over the pie and add some fresh lemon zest over the top of the entire pie.
Bake for one hour at 375 degrees and remove when golden and bubbly. Check at 30 minutes and cover edges of pie with tin foil if needed to keep them golden brown and flaky.
