It is spring time and that means one very important thing to Disney lovers—Epcot’s International Flower & Garden Show! For 90 days, March 1-May 29th 2017, Walt Disney World’s Epcot turns into a flower and garden extravaganza. There is landscaping in every color and intricate Disney character topiaries throughout the park. This is one spring event that you do not want to miss!
The magic of springtime comes alive every year at Walt Disney World during Epcot’s International Flower & Garden Show and 2017 is no different.
Your senses will be dazzled at Epcot’s Flower & Garden Festival. Besides the typical World Showcase and Future World offerings, you may purchase food from specialty outdoor kitchens, learn about gardening in small group seminars, admire creative flower presentations, and rock out with a free concert series.
Upon entering the park, pick up a 2017 Garden Passport to check off your food and drink choices throughout the day. Kids will adore the festive playgrounds and Eggs-travaganza egg hunt. You can find all this and more online here.
Special tours are available during the festival. One of the more popular tours is Behind the Seeds, where you get up close and personal with the future of agriculture.
Weekends at the Flower & Garden Festival include hands-on presentations at the Greenhouse Stage, demonstrations, and family-friendly workshops. Visit Epcot’s tour desk, website, or guest relations for more information.
Sightseeing Musts for the Festival
Epcot is in full bloom at the International Flower & Garden Festival. This year guests are greeted at the main entrance with a gorgeous maypole display featuring Daisy Duck, Minnie & Mickey Mouse, and Pluto.
Both children and adults will ooh and aah over the one-of-a-kind character shrubs, such as Beauty & the Beast, Anna & Elsa, and Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs. New characters at the 2017 festival included Figment and Cruz, from Disney Pixar’s Cars 3 movie coming out later this summer.
The Butterfly on the Go pavilion provides family fun as you walk through an enclosed exhibit housing Monarch and several other species of butterflies.
The free Garden Rocks concert series features big-name acts including Starship, The Spinners, and The Pointer Sisters. Concert times are 5:30, 6:45, and 8:00 PM Friday through Monday. Use a Disney FastPass to secure premium seating.
Stop in the Garden Theatre to see a film about the making of the International Flower & Garden festival, showing how this 90-day celebration comes to life. Disney’s attention to detail is admirable and the preparation behind this huge event will astound you.
Devouring Epcot’s Flower & Garden Cuisine
No matter what time of year, eating at Epcot is always an epicurean adventure. However, the International Flower & Garden Festival definitely ups the ante in gourmet food choices. Epcot’s Outdoor Kitchens, in the World Showcase Pavilion, feature regional dishes that are sure to please while their drink menus (serving alcoholic & non-alcoholic beverages) will aid in fighting the Florida heat.
Favorite outdoor kitchens at Epcot’s International Flower & Garden Show include Fleur de Lys in France (fabulous Tarte à l’Onion Alsacienne with fresh herbs and puff pastry), Florida Fresh (Carne Asada with black bean cake and cilantro lime sour cream and a Watermelon Cucumber Slushy), and Urban Farm Eats (Watermelon Salad with pickled onion, baby arugula, feta, and a balsamic reduction).
New booths for the 2017 festival included The Berry Basket and Northern Bloom, which offers an interesting Maple Popcorn Shake available in alcoholic (Crown Royal Maple Whiskey) or non-alcoholic options.
Tip: Purchase a prepaid dining card, on an elastic wristband, from a Flower & Garden kiosk to make purchasing food easier. $15 is the minimum amount that can be put on a gift card.
A Great Way to Spring into Springtime!
As a Florida resident Disney Passholder for 4 years, I strongly recommend Epcot’s International Flower & Garden Show over any other Disney activity.
Seeing all of the beautiful works of art with cheery flowers blooming around the park really brings springtime to the forefront. Combine that with the favorable Florida weather and you are truly at the Happiest Place on Earth!
