I love my iPhone. It is one of those things I didn’t think I needed and now cannot imagine life without. I mean, seriously, what would life be like without apps for my every need ;)? I do everything from tracking spending, logging calories, your average email and texting, reading the news, to online shopping. My kids also have it loaded with apps they love which have many uses. Sure – there are great apps for learning, but my iPhone brings a sense of comfort when I am stuck in traffic, waiting at a restaurant, or on the world’s longest grocery trip.
Thus, I was excited to hear that Mom Central was offering a chance to review a set of apps called My Living Stories – animated storybooks that bring new and classic stories to life on the iPhone and iPod Touch. My Living Stories apps use colorful and kid friendly artwork with narration and interactive features to bring story books alive for preschoolers.
The interface is extremely easy to use for even younger children. Princess A can use the My Living Stories apps all on her own. I truly enjoy that both she and Mr. C can read and listen to these stories on their own. Mr. C is reading chapter books so he takes great pride in reading the book to Princess A as well.
Selfishly, I enjoy that My Living Stories are a guilt free parent app. They are awesome for entertaining while you are out and about but are educational as well. Mr. C can read the stories and Princess A can read along with the narration, but still interact with each page. The sounds are fun and the animation is appropriate…not too overstimulating. My Living Stories apps also allow children who read to showcase their skills since they can record their voice reading the story (this feature requires an iPhone or iPod Touch with microphone capabilities). How fun is that?!
My Living Story classic stories include Princess & the Pea, King Midas, The Tortoise & the Hare, Little Red Riding Hood and Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
