Nearly NorCal Margarita Recipe
What is a NorCal margarita recipe? And what is a nearly NorCal margarita recipe? A NorCal margarita is a healthier version of a classic margarita. Cocktails are normally packed with sugar, but no one said a cocktail had to be unhealthy.
Enjoy a nearly NorCal margarita recipe instead of a traditional margarita recipe as a better drink of choice. Everything we eat or drink comes from somewhere, and someone has to figure out the recipes.
Biochemistry is the last place you would think of when looking for cocktail recipes. However, Robb Wolf changed that at the NorCal Strength and Training Facility.
Robb used his expertise in biochemistry and his dedication to healthier living to create what is now called the NorCal margarita. The biochemist set out to find a paleo solution to a night out.
Most drink recipes, especially alcoholic drinks, are not fit for a paleo diet. You can’t even fit a cocktail nicely into a low carb diet without skipping a meal or two or three.
All in all, it’s a long story, but Robb wanted to create a paleo cocktail, and the good news is he succeeded. He found a recipe that fits into the paleo world: a paleo margarita.
Of course, since this was done at the NorCal Strength and Training Facility, it was given the name NorCal Margarita. The 130-150 calorie beverage mixes tequila and real lime juice with club soda and ice.
It is considered the best of all the skinny margarita recipes and can be enjoyed anytime, including Cinco de Mayo. So, what is a nearly NorCal margarita recipe?
Not everyone is on a paleo diet; some of us are simply just trying to enjoy a low sugar cocktail. The NorCal margarita tastes fine, but when we make anything that relies on sugar healthier, we sacrifice some of the flavors we love.
A low calorie cocktail should be our best friend, something we enjoy, not something we have to force ourselves to enjoy for a good time. A nearly NorCal margarita still uses margarita mix, unlike the original recipe.
That’s one of the most important differences between a NorCal margarita and a nearly NorCal margarita.
Nearly NorCal Margarita Recipe
Using a margarita mix for a NorCal margarita was once a big mistake. You couldn’t find a margarita mix that would fit into a paleo lifestyle. However, things have changed greatly in the options we have at the grocery store.
We now have low calorie and low sugar options to make the perfect margarita using a margarita mix. While this recipe isn’t quite the traditional NorCal margarita recipe, it is close enough to where we can enjoy a healthier cocktail without feeling like we’re drinking skinny margaritas.
We can still use our favorite silver tequila or any types of tequila we like. Using fresh lime juice will take it to the next level. Though, that would mean squeezing a ton of limes.
Still, a margarita that is nowhere near 250-300 calories is a better option. This recipe may even become your new favorite way to make an agave tequila cocktail at home.
Nearly NorCal Margarita Ingredients
Tequila is the most important aspect of this margarita and most margaritas. We use an excellent Anejo tequila for a smooth taste. The good news is that tequila is made from agave, which makes it starch and gluten-free.
Adding more health value to a cocktail is a fantastic idea. (This is not the case with Vodka, which comes from potatoes and corn the majority of the time.) You will also need to use some Tres Agaves Organic Margarita Mix.
Tres Agaves Organic Margarita Mix is our favorite mix because it literally contains three ingredients: freshly squeezed limes, purified water, and organic agave nectar.
You can also use whatever type of simple margarita mix of tequila you’d like; just try to find low sugar options. This way, we remove some more of the guilt that comes from healthy living and alcohol consumption.
