Make these chalkboard cookies with edible chalk to express your feelings on any holiday.  They make the perfect teacher gift from your child, too!

This is one of those baking projects that is SO much fun. You will have a blast making the cookies and eating them but designing and decorating them is such a treat.

There are a few things you might need that aren’t on the average baking list. Wilton Meringue Powder, black food coloring, and bright white candy melts are the oddball ingredients here but they’re simple to order online or pick up at a specialty store.

You’ll also want to have straws on hand to use as your edible chalk molds!

Chalkboard Cookies Ingredients

The ingredients of the cookie itself won’t matter much, though simple sugar cookies work best. For this particular recipe, the icing is what matters most of all.

You will need to make a royal icing which is made with powdered sugar, water, and a few other ingredients that give it the black color we want. After that, the edible chalk is next most important. Simple candy melts will help get the job done and how you make them will turn them into fun, edible treats.
