Preparing children for their first years of school is so important, but sometimes it shocks me what children are expected to know at such an early age. Don’t get me wrong, as an educator for the last 15 years I completely understand the importance of setting a high bar for kids, but it is still important that our children have time to be just that…children. As you are preparing your children for school, working with them on these sight words for first graders will help make their reading experience a fun and successful one.
There are 133 words total; practice these words one row or column at a time move onto the next row once your children can progress through the first row with no errors and less than a three count between each word read. Your goal is that your child can read these words quickly so they don’t have to work at decoding them.
some her would make him into time has look two
more write go number no way could people my than
first water been called am its now find long down
day did get come made may part over new sound
take only little me work know place years live back
most very after thing our
just name good sentence man think say great where help
through mother answer much before line right too means

show also around farm three small set put still learn
end does another well large must big even such because
turn should page here why asked went men read need
land different home world us letters move try kind hand
picture again change off play spell air away America
You will see your child’s confidence in reading blossom as they progress through these word lists. Be sure you reward them when they master the list…possibly by letting them pick out a new book.
