Serving this dish can also be simple if you want to keep it low carb. You can serve this chicken up on a salad or on some cooked quinoa. This recipe is not low carb, thanks to the brown sugar.
But we can clearly make it fit into a healthy diet as well.
Crockpot Teriyaki Chicken Ingredients
- 4-6 Chicken Thighs | Chicken thighs have a lot more flavor than chicken breasts. They are smaller, more affordable, and way easier to use. You could easily replace these with a few chicken breasts, but thighs will do better.
- Seasoning Mixture | This recipe calls for a mixture of different seasonings that will be simple to use. You just need salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, chicken seasoning, and paprika. Basic chicken seasoning that you may already have in your pantry.
- 1 Cup Brown Sugar | The brown sugar is important as it will give the teriyaki chicken its sweetness. However, this is for the sauce, which means you will not be putting it directly on the chicken.
- ½ Cup Low Sodium Soy Sauce | Soy sauce will give the sauce a bit of saltiness to go with the sweetness. This also means you can go a little lighter on the salt-to-taste aspect of the chicken itself.
- ½ Cup Ketchup | The rest of the ingredients from here on out will be all about the sauce. The ketchup will give us a good base for the sauce. It also adds some tanginess to the picture, which will be appreciated.
We just need a few things to finish off the sauce. Minced garlic, oregano, and some fresh parsley will do the trick. The seasonings and herbs will finish off the sauce perfectly, giving you a teriyaki flavor from scratch.
