Taking pictures or videos are great ways to relive memories, share good times or document occasions. However watching your child’s basketball game through a lens means you aren’t really there in that moment. The other alternative is to just not record an event at all, but then we lose the chance to relive those moments later with family or friends. HTC’s answer to this problem is the Re by HTC. We got our hands on one and now want to share with you how we used it so that you can do the same.
What is The RE by HTC
The Re by HTC is a small handheld camera that requires only one hand to use or with a quick set-up, no hands. The size is only 96.7×26.5mm with a weight of only 65.5 grams. While the shape of the hardware may be easy to joke about it actually makes for a very comfortable tool in the hand, and everything here has a purpose. There are grip sensors that wake the device when it’s in your hand, a microphone and a big silver button for snapping photos or turning on the video camera. The device is waterproof, dustproof and has a 16mp camera capable of 1080p video or 720p slow-motion capture. In order to use the device, you’ll need a smartphone, preferably the HTC One M8 but any smartphone will do. Now that we know what we’re working with we can move onto how to use it best.
Taking the RE by HTC with you on a vacation is a great way to experience the vacation and save memories. The way the design of the Re helps is the lack of a viewfinder since there is no viewfinder there’s nothing to take you out of the moment. This becomes handy on any trip because all you need to do is point and shoot with one hand. All the images you take with the RE will be saved to the SD card inside the RE and will be viewable from the accompanying RE app.
During a trip to Tahoe, we were able to play in the snow and record the fun at the same time. Not once will you feel like you aren’t able to experience the trips first hand while using the RE. Above you’ll see a video we took of my beautiful niece, Makayla. You’ll be able to see how great the quality of videos taken by the RE. The colors pop, the microphone picked up on the sounds overall for a camera this size the RE is a fantastic device. The size alone makes the RE so much easier to use than a GoPro.
Thanks to the RE’s size, you will be able to get shots you may not otherwise be able to get. During a recent trip to Seattle, we were stuck in traffic, but the view was beautiful. In order to get the above shot, we held the RE out the window as high as we could, and then just started snapping away. Afterward, we were able to go through the images and save the ones we liked to our smartphone and trash the rest. This also attests to the ease of use of the RE by HTC. There is now turning it on, or waiting for it to boot up. Simply grasp it in your hands and the RE knows it’s time to start taking pictures or filming.
Posing for pictures is a family gathering staple, but with the RE by HTC, you are able to get shots of the interactions with family and friends. Families with children will especially love the RE by HTC. It’s hard to get that perfect posed picture with all of the excitement going on around children. They want to play, run around and get messy, but there are moments when not posing that are better. The Re by HTC makes it easy to snap a picture of children in their natural habitat, playing with cousins and friends. Combine family trips with the holidays and the RE will be an amazing tool to have.
