What a truly inspirational movie that will touch you to your core. Honestly, it is hard to find words that truly articulate how amazing this movie is.
From the press release:
“From DreamWorks Pictures and Reliance Entertainment, in association with Participant Media and Imagenation Abu Dhabi, comes the inspiring and poignant drama “The Help.” Based on the critically acclaimed No. 1 New York Times best-selling debut novel by Kathryn Stockett, “The Help’s” cast includes many fantastic names including one of my favorites, Bryce Dallas Howard, and the hilarious (at least in this film) Oscar® winner Sissy Spacek.
Set in Jackson, Mississippi, during the 1960s, “The Help” chronicles the relationship between three different and extraordinary women who build an unlikely friendship around a secret writing project that breaks societal rules and puts them all at risk.
A remarkable sisterhood emerges from their improbable alliance, instilling all of them with the courage to transcend the lines that define them, and the realization that sometimes those lines are made to be crossed—even if it means bringing everyone in town face to face with
the changing times.”
One of my favorite characters in this film is Celia! She makes you laugh so hard with her silly giddy view on life; then moments later you will be in tears as she shares her struggles with viewers.
Regardless of which character you like the most in this film, “The Help” develops characters to their full potential. I love films that manage to do this (easier said than done sometimes…) because I find myself connecting with each and every character in an individual way.
The story line makes you reflect on what was, what is, and what will be in this crazy world of ours. I found myself reflecting on how we live our life and how we raise our children…and I am pretty sure it will do the same for you.
The reception after the movie screening was so much fun! Snake Oil Cocktail Company and Campine Catering shared their talents with all of us by bringing The Help to life through appetizers and drinks.
My favorite drink was the Minny…the description matches her character so well…”Strong, with a kick”. To make your own “Minny” at home, mix the following (and then come back here to share what you thought of it):
1 ½ oz. vodka
½ oz. triple sec
½ oz. lemon juice
½ oz. house-made Tahitian
Has anyone read the book? I am adding that to my reading pile because I would love to see how the movie compares.
And most importantly…who is going to see “The Help” in theaters? Don’t forget that it opens tomorrow, Wednesday, August 10th, in theaters! You can also “Like” “The Help” movie on Facebook.
