I spent the last week tracking various exercise routines and how many calories burned according to my GoWear Fit Armband.
Saturday: I did 35 minutes of a Leslie Sansone Walk at Home workout. I used 1.5 pound wrist weights for the entire 35 minutes and kept my pace at max for even the cool down and then did my own cool down for a few minutes. Additionally, I turn these workouts into a true aerobic workout with these weights and then add upper body to the entire workout. I also do 100 squats and 40 push ups somewhere during every workout and did it at the end of this one.
According to my GWF, 183 calories burned during the workout and 174 calories for the two hours after the workout. On days where I do not exercise, it reports I burn anywhere from 200-275 calories in those same two hours…however, today was a lazy weekend day with no errands or anything during that time so that may be a factor.
Sunday: I did Level 1 of Jillian Michael’s Shred today – LOVE her workouts! Best bang for your buck in my opinion. But that is what I am curious about…how many calories am I burning during The Shred? After all, one of the things I love about it is that it is short and to the point. I also did 100 squats and did not do extra push ups since Level 1 includes them.
According to my GoWear Fit, I achieved 170 calories burned during the workout and 278 calories for the two hours post workout. So in 25 minutes I burned very close to what I burned doing Saturday’s 35 minute workout, but the post workout burn rate was substantially increased!
Tuesday: I did Level 2 of Jillian’s Shred today with 100 squats and 40 push ups. Yes, my arms felt like Jell-o afterwards. According to my GoWear Fit, I burned 151 calories during the workout and 227 calories for the two hours post workout. I am actually surprised by this and wondering if it is accurate. I was hot and sweaty – like DRIPPING afterwards because of how hard I pushed myself. And I was super hot for a few hours afterwards so having a lower caloric burn seems a bit off.
Wednesday: I did one of my oldie but a goodie workouts by Karen Voight today. I have had it for over 6 years and it is a great overall conditioning workout with aerobics and weight bearing that nets some nice toned body parts. It is just under 30 minutes long and then I also did 100 squats (BURNED today) and 40 push ups (…more burning).
According to my GoWear Fit, I burned 167 calories during the workout and 276 for the 2 hours after the workout. It really does help to just be moving post workout. Even just doing my normal “mom stuff” nets me a great post workout burn. But if I sit on my butt – say typing a blog post or tweeting – then my burn is way down.
Question for you – based on what I shared, are the numbers for calories burned what you thought they would be?
